Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction:
- Due to the additive CNS depressant effect, using opioids concurrently with the new sedative medications like benzodiazepines or similar drugs increases the risk of sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and death.
- There should be restrictions on the amount and length of concurrent use.
- Serotonin toxicity may result from concurrent use of oxycodone and serotonin-blocking medications, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs).
Overdose:
- Acute oxycodone overdose symptoms may include breathing difficulties, a low blood pressure miosis, and illusions. Dystonia, cardiac arrest, oedema of the lungs, and heart failure resulting in drowsiness or deepening coma.
- Patients should let others know about the warning signs and symptoms of an overdose.
- Establishing an airway patent should be the main focus of treatment for oxycodone overdose.
- If the patient is unconscious or has breathing problems as a result of a massive overdose, give them naloxone via vein. If there’s no improvement after two
minutes, repeat the dose.
Additional/other considerations:
- If a significant amount has been consumed in less than an hour, take note of activated charcoal, as long as the breathing is protected.
- For up to 12 hours following management, OxyContin tablets will keep dispensing oxycodone and add to its burden; as a result, the treatment of oxycodone overdose should be adjusted.
Conclusion:
Respiratory and pulmonary disorders are contraindications for oxycodone-containing OxyContin 20mg. Drug interactions and a number of other health concerns call for caution. Overdose symptoms necessitate prompt medical attention as well as certain measures.
